Artistic Polar Bear Challenge: 100 Ways In 100 Days. #53 - Minimalism

Our final stop on the Art History Tour Bus is Minimalism.  The Minimalist movement began in the 1960's as a counter to the emotion-driven paint-flinging of Abstract Expressionism.  It's a form of abstraction that sought to reduce a subject to machinelike simplicity.  Minimalist artists liked to experiment with unconventional methods and materials, and over time, the mediums became the focus.

For this example, however, the medium is simply paint.

So what's next for our bear?  Stay tuned, as we 'color his world'.

Ok, there is something very appealing about this - and I'm amazed at where you keep going with your friend, the bear. Glad you are taking us for a great ride.

From another menopausal artist, Bears are an interesting challenge. Lots of colors, lots of renditions. On this particular rendition, the blue in the lower left hand corner is unnecessary. The strong line is the bear's profile, a division between warm and cool. the blue distracts from that. I wish some artistic soul would critique my work.

Hello and welcome, Linda! I went back and looked at this bear, and you're totally right, it isn't necessary. Sometimes I have to be careful not to 'cookie cutter' these bears.
